Determination of the Optimal Location and Sizing of DGs in Radial Distribution Network Using Modified PSO and ABC Algorithms

1 Department of Electrical Engineering, Shiraz University 2 Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Eyvanekey Corresponding Author: Mohsen Khorasany Abstract—Nowadays limitation of energy sources has increased the demands for using Distributed Generation (DG) in electricity generation. One of the most important issues about DG is allocation size and place of DG in the network to achieve optimal using of it. This paper introduces an optimal placement method in order to sizing and placing of DGs in Radial distribution network. Proposed objective function is Multi Objective Function (MOF) that considers active power losses of the system and the voltage profile. In this paper four heuristic approaches for optimizing MOF have been compared with each other. These approaches are Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm, Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) algorithm, modified PSO and modified ABC algorithm. High performance of the proposed method is proved by applying it in 33 bus Radial system and optimizing MOF using MATLAB software for different optimization algorithms. In order to evaluate performance of these four algorithms, simulation results are compared to each other and best optimization algorithm is chosen.
